Shopify works.
The workflow does not. Where apps and spreadsheets keep failing.

Shopify is excellent for the standard store. Most operational pain is in the workflow gaps it does not cover natively. The apps that paper over those gaps eventually create their own.

Who this hits

You are reading the right page if any of these is you.

Multi-store Shopify merchants

Product data drifts across stores. Every update has to happen two or three times. Metafields and media drift apart.

B2B merchants taking phone or email orders

Customers ring or email their order. Your team builds a draft. Store credit cannot be applied. Discount codes plus a spreadsheet is the workaround. Reconciliation gets worse every month.

Service businesses on Shopify

Transportation, rentals, consulting. Shopify checkout assumes a product. Your business does not sell one.

Operators with FBA and POS sync drift

Marketplace Connect handles fulfilment but does not modify Shopify inventory. POS tablets stop syncing without warning. The drift compounds.

Where the workflow breaks

Six failure modes, named.

POS tablets stopped syncing inventory

Six tablets that haven't seen new products in two weeks. Force-close, reinstall, log out, log in. The till is now a guessing game. See /fixes/shopify-pos-inventory-not-syncing.

B2B store credit cannot be applied on draft orders

Your team takes the phone order, builds a draft, cannot apply the customer's store credit, and reaches for a discount code and a spreadsheet. See /fixes/shopify-b2b-store-credit.

Service bookings and quotes do not fit checkout (coming soon)

Transportation, rental, consulting. Shopify checkout assumes a product. Your business does not sell one.

Amazon FBA orders break Shopify inventory

Marketplace Connect handles fulfilment. It does not modify Shopify inventory. The drift compounds. See /fixes/amazon-fba-shopify-inventory-sync.

Multi-store product data drifts

Every product update has to happen two or three times. Metafields and media drift between stores. See /fixes/shopify-multi-store-product-data-drift.

Undeliverable addresses pass checkout, fail later (coming soon)

PO Box. Carrier-restricted region. Address checkout does not check. Fulfilment exceptions pile up.

Timeline

Typical Engagements

The fix typically uses one or more of: Shopify Flow, a custom Shopify app, a checkout extension (on Plus), a draft-order app extension, or a backend service that reconciles state on a schedule. The choice depends on the gap.

  • Assessment: paid, written operational diagnosis returned within a week.
  • Diagnosis: which Shopify surfaces (Flow, custom app, extension, backend service) the fix uses.
  • Fix path: cost shape for each option, with the trade-offs named.
  • Workflow build sprint: typically one to three weeks of focused engineering.
  • Documented handover: you keep the code, the docs, and a runbook for support.

Amazon FBA Shopify Inventory Sync: Why Marketplace Connect Is Not Enough, And How I Would Reconcile

Marketplace Connect creates and fulfils Amazon orders in Shopify. It does not modify Shopify inventory. The drift compounds quietly until oversells start. Here is the engineering reality and the reconciliation layer I would build.

Shopify Multi-Store Product Data Drift: How I Would Build A PIM Layer Without Replacing Shopify

Every product update has to happen two or three times. Metafields and media drift between stores. The team spends hours each week reconciling instead of selling. Here is the architecture for a Shopify-native PIM layer and how I would build it.

Shopify B2B Store Credit On Draft Orders: Why It Breaks and How I Would Fix It

B2B buyers ring or email their order. Your team builds a draft order in the admin. The customer has store credit on their account. You cannot apply it. So you reach for a discount code and a spreadsheet, and the reconciliation gets worse every month. Here is the engineering reality and the fix path I would propose.

Shopify POS Won't Sync Products or Inventory: How To Diagnose and Fix It

Six tablets that haven't seen new products in two weeks. Force-close, reinstall, log out, log in. The till is now a guessing game. Here is how I diagnose Shopify POS sync failures, the five failure classes you typically hit, and how I would approach the fix.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Cannot an app from the Shopify App Store do this?

Sometimes. The assessment tells you when an app is genuinely the right answer and when an app will create more debt than it removes.

Will the fix break with Shopify's next platform update?

Custom workflows are written against documented Shopify APIs. They survive normal platform updates. The assessment names which APIs your fix depends on.

Do you build for Shopify Plus only?

No. Most fixes work on standard Shopify. Some, like B2B store credit on draft orders, are easier on Plus, and the assessment will say so.

Will I be passed to a junior or an offshore agency?

No. You work with Anton directly.

How long does a typical Shopify fix take?

Most workflow builds are one to three weeks of focused engineering after the assessment.

What does the assessment produce?

A written diagnosis, a fix path with options, and a scoped engagement quote. You keep the diagnosis whether or not you book the fix.

The short answer

Shopify is fine. The native flow does not cover these cases. The right fix depends on the gap.

POS tablets that stop syncing inventory. B2B store credit admins cannot apply on draft orders. Service bookings that do not fit the standard checkout. Amazon FBA fulfilment that breaks Shopify inventory. Multi-store catalogs that drift. Undeliverable addresses that pass checkout and fail later. The fix is a custom Shopify app, a Shopify Flow workflow, a checkout extension, or a backend service alongside Shopify. The assessment names which.

Describe the symptom in one or two sentences.

One form field. Phone and email visible if you would rather call. POS down counts as urgent; mention that and we will triage faster.
